What to Expect at Your First session?

Our first session together focuses on getting acquainted and exploring what you'd like me to help you with. It's a chance to discuss your goals, expectations, and any questions you have about the process.

I will explain the workings of the Brain to help you understand why you are feeling, thinking and behaving the way you do, is because your brain & body (nervous system) are currently wired for Protection, to keep you safe. Having this awareness is the first step in healing, and will help to affect the positive changes you’re wanting to make.

After the session I will send you a complementary MP3 hypnosis to listen to at bedtime, which will help to optimise your sleep, and support the work we will be doing together.

Future sessions combines psychotherapy, a talking therapy, with hypnotherapy, a relaxation technique.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) sessions you’ll need varies from person to person. My approach is designed to be solution‑focused and time‑efficient, meaning many clients require fewer sessions than with traditional therapy.

That said, therapy is always highly individualised. The total number of sessions depends on factors such as your goals, the challenges you’re experiencing, and your personal circumstances.

How quickly will I notice results?

Many clients begin to experience a noticeable improvement in their thoughts, emotions, or behaviours within the first 5–6 sessions.
For deeper or long‑standing issues, 8–12+ sessions may be beneficial to create long‑lasting and sustainable change.

We will always work at a pace that feels comfortable and right for you—whether your goals are reached sooner or require a more extended process.

Sessions for phobias and anxiety

  • Specific phobias (such as flying, spiders, or driving) typically require around 3–4 sessions.
  • If there is an underlying issue, such as generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), additional sessions may be needed to address the root cause and build effective coping strategies.
  • Non‑specific phobias—including panic attacks, agoraphobia, and social anxiety—usually require more sessions.
  • When anxiety is accompanied by depression, negative habits, or high levels of ongoing stress, treatment often takes longer to ensure meaningful and lasting improvement.

A collaborative, forward‑focused approach

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative and empowering approach that focuses on where you want to be, rather than on past problems. I offer a safe, supportive space to help you move forward with confidence and clarity toward your goals.

If you’re unsure how many sessions you may need, we can discuss this during your initial consultation and review progress together as therapy continues.

Why use Zoom?

Zoom offers several advantages, including convenience, comfort, and increased accessibility. It allows you to receive hypnotherapy from the comfort of your own home, saving time and travel costs. This can also lead to a more relaxed and secure environment, potentially facilitating a deeper therapeutic experience.

The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) recommend the use of platforms like Zoom for hypnotherapy sessions, particularly for independent practitioners.

NCH also recognises that online
sessions, including those conducted via Zoom, can be just as effective as in-person sessions and offers greater flexibility and convenience.

Trauma‑Informed Solution‑Focused Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy in Cheshire

Helping Your Nervous System Feel Safe, Regulated, and Connected

How are you feeling today?

If you paused for a moment and checked in with yourself, where would you place yourself right now?

JUST RIGHT
Calm, settled, relaxed, and connected.

TOO HOT
Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, reactive, angry, or unable to switch your mind off.

TOO COLD
Feeling numb, disconnected, shut down, or emotionally distant.

Many clients arriving for hypnotherapy in Cheshire notice themselves moving between these states — often without really understanding why.

You might recognise experiences such as:

  • Anxiety, emotional overload, confusion, anger, stress, panic, or racing thoughts
  • Low mood, depletion, zoning out, emotional numbness, or disconnection from your body
  • Difficulty identifying or understanding what you’re feeling at all

Do These Emotional Patterns Feel Familiar?

You may notice traits or patterns such as:

  • Difficulty setting boundaries or saying “no”
  • Being highly self‑critical or perfectionistic
  • Persistent anxiety or people‑pleasing
  • Fear of rejection or abandonment
  • Avoiding conflict or feeling responsible for others’ emotions
  • Guilt, shame, or a strong need to over‑explain yourself

You may also notice coping strategies like:

  • Staying constantly busy or distracted
  • Strong emotional reactions in relationships when feeling unheard
  • Pushing people away when things feel safe or stable
  • Over‑apologising or explaining yourself at work
  • Turning to food, alcohol, or stimulants during stressful times

Your Relationship With Emotions

Perhaps you:

  • Can notice and meet emotions with kindness
  • Feel critical or judgemental toward difficult feelings
  • Avoid certain emotions altogether
  • Only feel safe expressing emotions when you’re alone

If any of this resonates, there is nothing wrong with you.

A Trauma‑Informed Reframe

There is no shame in these patterns.
You are not broken.
You don’t need fixing.

What you’re experiencing is your nervous system doing its job.

From a trauma‑informed perspective, your autonomic nervous system may be operating in protection mode — responding as though there is danger, even when you are safe. This often develops when past experiences overwhelmed your system and there wasn’t enough safety, support, or space to process what was happening at the time.

Your nervous system is not holding you back.
It is trying to protect you.

If you feel stuck, reactive, shut down, or constantly on edge, it does not mean you are failing. It means your body learned very effective survival strategies — and is still using them today.

The Focus of Trauma‑Informed Hypnotherapy

You are not behind.
You are not wrong for being here.

The work we do together focuses on helping your brain and body recognise that it is now safe — safe to move out of protection and back into regulation, connection, clarity, and choice.

When your nervous system feels safe, meaningful change becomes possible.

Awareness of your patterns is the first step.
Building capacity to move beyond them is what creates healing.

Hypnotherapy in Cheshire – A Compassionate, Integrative Approach

As an experienced Hypnotherapist in Cheshire, I offer trauma‑informed, solution‑focused clinical hypnotherapy to support individuals experiencing:

  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • Low mood or depression
  • Stress, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation
  • Phobias and fears
  • Addictive or compulsive behaviours
  • Limiting beliefs and emotional blocks
  • Fertility‑related emotional support

Hypnotherapy works by gently calming and regulating the nervous system, allowing the mind to release unhelpful emotional and behavioural patterns without needing to relive past trauma.

Rather than focusing on what is “wrong”, this approach supports your system to feel safe, balanced, and empowered — facilitating long‑lasting change by effectively rewiring neural pathways in a way that feels natural and restorative.

An Integrative Hypnotherapy Practice in Cheshire

Alongside Solution‑Focused Clinical Hypnotherapy, I am also trained in:

  • Root‑Cause Therapy
  • EMDR
  • Integrative Somatic Parts Work
  • The Freedom Fertility Formula

This allows me to offer a truly bespoke hypnotherapy experience in Cheshire, shaped around your individual needs. There is no one‑size‑fits‑all approach — sessions are guided by what will be most supportive for you, at this point in your life.

By working at both conscious and subconscious levels, this integrative model supports emotional regulation, nervous system balance, resilience, and meaningful change.

A Safe, Supportive Space to Move Forward

Sessions are confidential, compassionate, and forward‑focused.
You will never be asked to relive painful experiences or disclose more than feels safe.

The aim is not to “fix” you — but to help you reconnect with your innate capacity for calm, choice, and wellbeing.
